On April 13th, from the unusual location of Palais de Tokyo, be ready to experience a new line up!

Temporary replacing our resident band, Motel Connection and Ensi, committed to their national tours, the springtime Vertical leading role will be held by Para One (aka Jean-Baptiste de Laubier), an electronic music producer and film director; Discodeine, French duo coming from the underground scene; The Aikiu, Parisien pop group strongly influenced by new wave and electronic music, and the Italian Brandumize (Vincenzo Lerose & Marco Loizzo), a duo inspired by contemporary electronic music scenarios balanced with orchestral suggestions.

After Paris we’ll keep you posted with infos on the long year waiting ahead!

Taking the best of post-punk, new wave, and pop as inspiration, Sunderland’s Futureheads were among the best of the U.K.’s “angular” movement, which also included Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party. The band began as a trio of vocalist/guitarist Barry Hyde, bassist Jaff, and drummer Pete Brewis. Hyde and Brewis were tutors at a lottery-funded organization called the Sunderland City Detached Youth Project, which aimed to get kids off the street by having them play music instead. The band — whose members were still in their teens themselves — also used the building as a practice space, along with other area groups. The rest of the Futureheads’ lineup was also culled from the Sunderland City Detached Youth Project: vocalist/guitarist Ross Millard and Hyde’s little brother Dave, who eventually took over drums duty from Brewis. The band released its debut single in late 2002, and followed it up with two more singles in 2003, 123 Nul and First Day, both of which were issued by the Fantastic Plastic label. 679 stepped up to release the band’s self-titled full-length in mid-2004.

That fall, The Futureheads was released in the U.S., coinciding with the band’s support slot on Franz Ferdinand’s North American tour. The Futureheads spent most of 2005 touring, including dates supporting Foo Fighters, Oasis, and Pixies, though they returned to the studio long enough to record the single Area, which was released in the U.K. that fall and as an EP in the U.S. the following year. The Futureheads’ second album, News and Tributes, arrived in summer 2006 and featured a bigger, glossier sound and more complex songwriting. The band released This Is Not the World on its own Nul Records imprint in 2008. Two years later, The Chaos arrived with a slightly more ambitious approach, and in 2012 the band released Rant, a completely acapella album including reworkings of older songs as well as instrument-free covers of Kelis and the Black Eyed Peas.

On Thursday June 21st Vertical Stage Session starts again from Florence (IT).
I rather proudly say this, because after the forthcoming summer date, in autumn we will add more dates in Cagliari, Bologna, Rome, Paris and London.
Not common, for an unusual and elaborate event like this. Many individuals and important structures added themselves to the usual team made by Pesca, Motel, Eggers; I wish to give them my welcome and I thank them all for their skills and enthusiasm.

Future will see so many news, but I leave them apart as time will uncover them. I just want to underline one thing: the satisfaction that I feel when I see all these people working on the project and living it as it’s their own project.

A project from everyone, for everyone. WeVertical.

The ambitious enterprise of turning “I” into “WE” is bearing fruit and is underlining once again that, together, any little dream can come true.

Let’s say it clear, there’s a million ways to tell a story, and some are better than others.
But we want to make a try, one of those “one shot/one kill” tries, because uncontrollable but true.
Truth, which is sometimes frightening, it’s the only key lecture we mind when we talk about a thing we feel it’s not just “ours”, because it is made by all the people who’ve joined it, who will join, who will dedicate part of their time sharing the emotions of a moment with someone else. We have called this thing Vertical Stage, and if you have anything to add time has come to do it!

After Turin, Milan, Brussels VERTICAL STAGE SESSION gets to Florence, for Pitti Immagine Uomo
on Thursday June 21st, 8.30 pm at Palazzo Gabetti, Via Martiri del Popolo 28

More than a live. Beyond a show. Vertical Stage Session is a unique event, atypical and evocative, which turns balconies into stages, facades into scenography, and streets into a dancefloor.

At different heights and on different balconies, at Palazzo Gobetti in Florence, with stage management provided by Stefano Pesca, June 21st appointment will see MOTEL CONNECTION performing: Samuel, frontman for Subsonica, Pierfunk, bassist for their first two records, and DJ Pisti, in a concentrate of electro, rock, indie and dance music.

Born in Turin in November 2010, on the occasion of “Paratissima” – the parallel event of “Artissima”, an international fair of contemporary art, Vertical Stage Session has been immediately repeated in Milan during “Fuori il Salone del Mobile”, as closing event of the “International Design Week”, and on September 2011 moved abroad to reach the European Parliament balcony, in Brussels, for the “Young Volunteers Stand UP!”.

Next stop is in Florence, in the heart of the historical centre of the city, and on the occasion of one of the most important events in world’s fashion: Pitti Immagine Uomo (taking place between June 19 and 22).

Vertical Stage Session is a 2.0 social experience. A projects summing up art, sociality, culture, show and urban redevelopment: a true example of Weconomy, the economy that we make, in which the sum of each individual’s intelligence gives birth to a stronger, more drawing collective intelligence.

VSS is a format created by Stefano Pesca, by creative factory Eggers 2.0 and by Motel Connection.

Alfa Romeo MiTo, that joined the format from the beginning, renews its involvement and establishes itself as Main Partner.

Jagermeister, on the contrary, starts its cooperation, that will last until the end of the tour, supported, in Florence, by Diesel and Blink. Same day hotels.

Media Partner: Ustation.it, a website collecting university medias, which will provide real time streaming of the event.

Vertical Stage Session is included into the “Estate Fiorentina 2012” Calendar, it’s managed in collaboration with PRG – Public Relations Group and with the support of La Gaiana spa – Gruppo Gabetti.
